See you at our yoga class this Sunday!
Good morning, Cool Beans!
This week is full of events! From St. Patrick’s Day celebrations to the buzz around the Academy Awards, and the simple joy that the sun now sets at 7pm — it finally feels like longer days are here. But most importantly, don’t forget our yoga class this Sunday with our yoga teacher and friend Kiara — one you definitely don’t want to miss. In the meantime, enjoy our selection of events for the week!

🤤 If you are craving something new: Last week we tried Creepies, the new French-inspired restaurant in the West Loop that opened last August. I’m not French, but personally I liked the food. We ordered several dishes to share, and what stood out to me the most were the saucisson wrapped in puffy pastry and the gnocchi — both really good. The space is also very nice and well curated, with a bit of a hipster vibe. On the other hand, we were a group of eight and had a very hard time booking a table — not because there wasn’t availability, but because their rule is a maximum of six per table. Sometimes it feels like restaurants make things unnecessarily complicated. If the space allows it, why not be a little flexible and accommodate people when possible?
🕺🏻 If your feet can’t stop (won’t stop) moving like Michael Jackson: If you’re in the mood for house music, STRICTLY 90'S at Podlasie Club is all about celebrating the golden era of the genre. The lineup brings together local legends including Gant Garrard, widely recognized as one of the key innovators of Ghetto House and Juke, alongside veteran DJ and producer John Simmons, who has been part of the city’s underground and rave scene for more than 30 years and was a longtime resident at Smartbar. Rounding out the night is Czboogie, founder of 5 Magazine and a DJ known for her disco-infused house sets. More info here!
🎤 If live music is your vibe: We’re excited that Moonchild will be performing at Thalia Hall in Chicago on March 13th and 14th as part of their Waves Tour. Known for their smooth blend of neo‑soul, jazz, and R&B, the trio creates music full of silky harmonies, intricate grooves, and mellow, soulful vibes that feel intimate even in a large venue. Grab your ticket here!
🛋️ If the couch (or the armchair) is calling your name: In view of the Oscars, we tried to watch as many of the nominated Best Picture films as we could, and a few weeks ago we finally saw Sinners. Directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan in a compelling dual role, the film follows twin brothers returning to their Southern hometown, hoping to leave their past behind—only to find a dark, almost supernatural force waiting for them. The story slowly builds tension, blending horror with human themes of guilt, family, and identity. With its haunting atmosphere and striking cinematography, the movie lingers long after the credits, making you reflect on the choices we make and the past we can’t escape.
🎭 If you feel artsy: This Friday, March 13th there is the opening reception of “In View of Her” by Abigail Pixler at Art City. It explores the artist’s fascination with the feminine form through a series of intimate paintings. Using rich hues and soft transitions of light, Pixler captures the curves and contours of the human body in a way that feels both reverent and introspective. Her compositions often begin as abstract fields of color that gradually emerge into recognizable figures, creating a blurred, dreamlike realism. The exhibition invites viewers to slow down and reconsider what it means to truly look at beauty—whether it’s something to consume quickly or something to sit with, contemplate, and experience more deeply.
