Good morning, Cool Beans!
We hope you had as fabulous a weekend as we did! This Sunday, we’re hosting our monthly event in collaboration with Salon Appetit, an organization that curates unique experiences around food, art, and music—and we can’t wait to see you there. In the meantime, while we count down the days, here’s a curated list of fun activities happening this week. Enjoy!
Find the coolest picks for Chicago, this week:
🤤 If you are craving something new: Dear Margaret is a cozy neighborhood spot in Lakeview that blends French-Canadian comfort food with Midwestern hospitality. The menu is made by seasonal ingredients and changes often, offering warm, soulful dishes like tourtière, maple-glazed carrots, and house-made pâté—served in a space that feels like dining at a friend’s home. It’s the kind of place where you can linger over a glass of wine and a hearty meal, perfect for gathering with friends on a chilly Chicago evening.
🕺🏻 If your feet can’t stop (won’t stop) moving like Michael Jackson: This weekend, swing by Millennium Park on Saturday, August 23 for the Chicago House Music Festival, an annual celebration of the city’s house music scene that has shaped dance music worldwide. Held every summer, the festival draws fans from across the globe to hear top DJs alongside up-and-coming talent. Our favorite are Tommaso at 4 PM on the Soulful House Stage (North Promenade), bringing a groove-filled set straight from his regular spots in Chicago’s northwest clubs, and CTRLZORA at 7 PM, with a smooth, genre-blurring mix of house, R&B, and electronic sounds. 🎤 If live music is your vibe: Two Another is coming to Chicago on Wednesday, August 20 at Subterranean (Upstairs). Doors open at 7 PM, show starts at 8 PM. The London based duo will be playing tracks from their new album Suburbia along with favorites like Keeping Me Under and Coming Alive. Tickets are limited so grab yours soon here! Listen to our favorite song from there here!
🛋️ If the couch (or the garden) is calling your name: Did you know the Music Box hosts outdoor screenings in their garden during the summer? The series, called Music Box Garden Movies, features a new theme each week. This week’s theme is Y2K Horror Remake Week, with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre showing on August 18–19 (tonight!) and Thir13een Ghosts on August 20–21. Screenings take place on the Garden Patio, right behind the Music Box Lounge, with seating beginning 25 minutes before showtime. More info and tickets here!
🎭 If you feel artsy: This fall the Art Institute of Chicago opened an exhibition called “A New View of 20th- and 21st-Century Architecture and Design” in the Modern Wing’s Gallery 285. Designed by Chicago firm Norman Kelley, the installation highlights visionary city plans, famous furniture, graphic design, ceramics, film, and fiber art through rotating thematic displays. From Daniel Burnham’s Plan of Chicago to works by Tatiana Bilbao, Norman Teague, and Amanda Williams, the exhibition explores how design and architecture continue to shape the ways we live and imagine our cities.
